The Central Board of Secondary Education on May 13, 2025, declared the results for Class 12 board exams for the academic session 2024–25. In case a student fails in one subject or desires to enhance his/her score, CBSE Supplementary Exam 2025 serves as the saving opportunity from year loss. The registration for the Supplementary Exam commenced on May 30 and will remain open till June 17, 2025

CBSE 12th Supplementary Exam
Supplementary exams, known by some as compartment exams, are conducted by CBSE for the students in Class 12 and Class 10 who fail to secure the minimum passing marks (33%) in one or two subject under the board exams. This gives them the opportunity to clear that specific subject without sitting through an entire year all over. Also, students who already passed but want to get better marks in a subject can go ahead and attend these exams.
CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Exam Date & Time
CBSE Class 12 Supplementary Exam will be held on July 15, 2025 in one shift. The exams will be conducted in all Science, Arts, and Commerce stream subjects in one go, where a student can only appear in one subject.
The detailed subject-wise timetable shall be announced by Central Board of Secondary Education sometime after the results of the main board exams, probably in late June 2025. The date sheet will be given in a PDF format on the official CBSE website, cbse.gov.in.
Eligibility criteria for CBSE 12th Supply Exam
Students can be admitted to the supplementary exam if any of the following conditions apply:
- One fails in one of the five main subjects in Class 12 board exams and clears all internal assessments.
- One secures at least 33% marks in other subjects and internal assessments.
- One has passed but wants to improve the performance in one subject.
Note: Those failing in two or more subjects are not eligible for the supplementary exam and have to take the entire board exam again the next year.
Application Fee
Although the exact fee for 2025 has not yet been declared, one should expect around ₹500 per subject for the verification of marks, ₹500 to ₹700 for obtaining a photocopy of the evaluated answer sheet, and ₹100 per question for revalancy. The students should check the CBSE official website for the fee structure once the application process starts.
Syllabus and Exam Pattern
Supplementary exams would undergo the same syllabus of the main Class 12 board examination carried out during February–April 2025. The exam would be held in the pen-and-paper format, and candidates are suggested to focus on the subject in which they failed or want to improve. Practicing on CBSE sample papers or Previous Years’ Question Papers is recommended in order to know the exam pattern and type of questions that are asked.
No. of attempts a candidate will get for compartment exams
Students get up to three chances to clear the supplementary exam:
- First attempt: July 2025, right after the main exam results.
- Second attempt: March/April 2026, during the next year’s board exams.
- Third attempt: July/August 2026, in the supplementary exam window.
- If a student fails to pass after these attempts, they must reappear for all subjects in the next board exam.
Admit Card
Regular students will get the admit card from the respective school, while the private candidates may download the admit card from the CBSE official website. The release of admit cards are expected to take place in June 2025, about 7 to 10 days before the exam date. Students must carry the admit card to the exam center along with a valid ID and must reach the venue in time.
Results of Compartment Exams
Given that the results are out, the Central Board of Secondary Education has planned to declare the Class XII Supplementary Result by August/September 2025. Students must keep updating themselves by going through the official website cbseresults.nic.in. The other two official websites are www.cbse.gov.in and DigiLocker and UMANG App for keeping track. The provisional marks sheets will be issued online for downloading, while original certificates will be available for collection at the respective schools.

Application Process
- Regular Students: A CBSE-affiliated school must contact appropriate authorities to apply for the supplementary exam. Also, schools will be required to submit the ‘List of Candidates’ in the CBSE portal.
- Private Candidate: Private candidates can apply directly on the CBSE website (cbseit.in) under the “Private Candidates” section by giving details like roll number, registration number, and the subject they want to appear in again, along with payment of the application fee through online mode. The process of application will start from May 30, 2025, admit cards being available to download from June 25, 2025.
